Clear answers about choosing an iCarsoft scan tool, checking vehicle coverage, using service functions, installing updates, ordering in New Zealand and getting local support.
The best scan tool depends on the vehicles you work on, the systems you need to access and whether the tool is for home, fleet or workshop use.
Start with the vehicle makes you need to cover and the exact job you want the tool to perform. A dedicated single-make tool can make sense for one vehicle group, while a multi-make or all-makes tool is usually better for a mixed garage or workshop.
Use the Help Me Choose guide or the iCarsoft Product Selector. For a specific function, check the official coverage list before ordering.
Single-make tools focus on a particular manufacturer group, such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Land Rover or Volkswagen Group vehicles. Multi-make tools cover a selected group of vehicle brands. All-makes tools are designed for broader use across mixed vehicles.
βAll makesβ does not mean every function is available on every vehicle. Exact system and service coverage still varies by model, year and control unit.
For one vehicle family, a dedicated V2.0, V3.0 or V4.0 model may be the most straightforward choice. For several different makes, the CR Pro+ is a strong all-round handheld option, while the CR Pro S adds a newer touchscreen format and more advanced capability.
The right choice still depends on the exact vehicle and function, so use the Product Selector or contact us with the vehicle details before ordering.
The CR Max P is the flagship current workshop option in the iCarsoft New Zealand range. The CR Max and CR Max BT are also professional tablet-based choices, with the best fit depending on budget, wireless preference and the level of regular diagnostic work.
For a workshop or fleet, it is worth checking the important vehicle makes, model years and required functions rather than choosing on headline specifications alone.
Yes. iCarsoft scan tools are not normally locked to a single vehicle. They can be used on compatible vehicles covered by the software installed on that model.
The range of makes and systems depends on the tool, so a single-make model is more restricted than a multi-make or all-makes unit.
Not as a substitute for a motorcycle diagnostic tool. Motorcycles use different software, connectors and communication systems. The iCarsoft motorcycle range includes models such as the MT Pro, MT Pro Mini, MT V6 Plus and dedicated MT V6 tools.
See the Motorcycle Tools collection for the current range.
A tool may communicate with one system on a vehicle without supporting every service or coding function on that same vehicle. The official iCarsoft Function List is the live source for checking exact tool, vehicle, system and function combinations.
Make, model and year are the starting point. Control units, market versions and the specific function required can all affect coverage.
It depends on the tool, vehicle, model year, fitted control units and the system or function you need. A broad make listing is not enough to confirm every feature.
Use the official iCarsoft Function List, or contact us with the vehicle details and the exact function you want to perform.
Please provide the make, model, year, engine or fuel type, whether the vehicle is NZ-new or imported if relevant, and the exact system or service function required. A VIN can sometimes help distinguish a vehicle version, but it does not by itself guarantee a function.
No. Basic OBD2 normally refers to standard engine and emissions diagnostics. Access to ABS, airbags, transmission, body control, electronic parking brake and other manufacturer systems requires enhanced vehicle-specific coverage.
This is why a basic code reader and an all-systems scan tool can both use the diagnostic socket but have very different capabilities.
Many iCarsoft multi-system and all-system tools can access ABS, SRS/airbag and transmission modules on supported vehicles. Entry-level OBD2 readers may only cover engine and emissions faults.
Check the individual product description and the official Function List for the exact vehicle and system.
Many iCarsoft tools include service functions such as oil or service reset, electronic parking brake, battery registration, DPF functions and steering angle calibration. Availability varies by both tool and vehicle.
A function shown in a toolβs general feature list should not be treated as universal coverage for every vehicle.
Active testing allows a compatible scan tool to command supported components or systems for diagnostic purposes, such as operating a relay, valve, pump, fan or actuator. It is more advanced than simply reading fault codes and live data.
Only tools that advertise active testing provide this capability, and the available tests still depend on the vehicle.
iCarsoft tools are primarily diagnostic and service tools. Some supported tool and vehicle combinations include adaptations, coding or special functions, but they should not be assumed to replace dealer-level online programming or a dedicated key-programming system.
Any coding, programming or key-related requirement should be checked as a specific function before purchase.
Both NZ-new and imported vehicles can be supported. Coverage is based on the vehicleβs electronics, software and control units rather than where it was purchased.
Imported or market-specific versions can differ, so provide that detail when asking about an exact function.
There is no single start year that applies to every make or model. Older pre-OBD vehicles and early manufacturer-specific systems can have limited coverage and may require a separate adaptor.
For older vehicles, check the specific make, model, year and connector requirements before ordering.
Vehicles with the same badge and model year can use different engines, ECUs, software versions, option packages or market configurations. Manufacturers can also change diagnostic procedures during a production run.
That variation is normal in vehicle diagnostics and is why coverage is checked by the exact combination rather than by vehicle name alone.
Updating before first use and periodically afterwards gives the tool the latest available vehicle coverage, fixes and software improvements for that model.
Most current iCarsoft scan tools sold through iCarsoft New Zealand include lifetime software updates without an ongoing subscription charge. Any exception would be stated on the individual product page.
The update method depends on the model. Supported tablet and touchscreen tools may update directly over Wi-Fi, while other models use the official Windows or Mac software with a memory card or USB connection.
Follow the step-by-step iCarsoft Update Guide for the current download links and methods.
Most normal fault-code, live-data and service work can be performed offline once the required software is installed. Internet access is needed for software updates and may be required for certain online functions on compatible professional models.
There is no ongoing subscription for normal use of the current iCarsoft tools sold by iCarsoft New Zealand, unless a product listing specifically states otherwise. The tools are also not normally charged on a per-vehicle scan basis.
They are supplied as complete diagnostic tools, but some models may ask you to select, download or update vehicle software during initial setup. We recommend installing the latest available update before the first diagnostic session.
No. Clearing a code removes the stored fault information and warning state where the vehicle allows it. If the underlying problem is still present, the fault code or warning light will usually return.
Codes and live data are diagnostic information, not a substitute for testing and repairing the cause of the fault.
First update the tool, confirm the vehicle details and record the exact steps and message shown. For a suspected software issue, iCarsoft HQ may require a LOG file so its engineers can review the communication with the vehicle.
Use our Software Issue Feedback guide for the recording process. iCarsoft New Zealand can help with local order and warranty support, while software engineering investigations are handled by iCarsoft HQ.
