Available functions include reading and clearing fault codes, viewing ECU information, checking live data and freeze-frame information, carrying out a complete vehicle scan and opening individual modules for more focused diagnosis.

The exact systems available depend on the vehicle’s model, year, market specification and fitted control modules.

Bi-Directional Control and Active Testing

Bi-directional control allows the BMM V4.0 to send commands to supported modules and components rather than only reading stored information. This can help confirm whether a component responds before replacement parts are ordered.

Depending on the vehicle, active tests can include ABS pump operation, window regulators, fuel pumps, throttle actuators, wipers and washers, EGR valves, injectors, cooling fans, transmission solenoids and other supported electrical systems.

Active-test coverage varies by model, year and fitted ECU. A test available on one BMW Group vehicle may not be available on another.

BMW-Specific Coding and Adaptations

For supported vehicles and control modules, the BMM V4.0 includes selected coding, calibration and adaptation functions. These can assist with module setup, replacement-part learning, resetting adaptation values and vehicle-specific maintenance work across compatible E, F and G chassis platforms.

Coding coverage is vehicle and module specific. This tool should not be treated as a universal ECU programming or key-programming device.

The BMM V4.0 combines regularly used maintenance procedures with higher-level BMW Group workshop routines for supported vehicles.

Service-function availability varies by model, year, system and ECU configuration. A listed function is not available on every supported vehicle.

Two Additional Vehicle Software Groups

After purchase, two additional supported vehicle groups can be downloaded through Wi-Fi at no extra charge. A software group may cover one make or several related marques, depending on the selection.

The extra downloads add flexibility, but the BMM V4.0 remains primarily a BMW Group specialist. For regular work across many unrelated makes, an all-makes CR Pro or CR Max tool is more suitable.

CAN-FD and Later-Model Vehicles

The BMM V4.0 supports CAN-FD communication used by selected newer vehicles. This improves access to compatible later-model platforms that may not communicate fully with older diagnostic hardware.

Some newer vehicles also use manufacturer security gateways that can restrict active tests, coding or service procedures. Exact access depends on the vehicle and manufacturer requirements.

Touchscreen Hardware and Updates

The Android platform uses a quad-core 1.3GHz processor, 64GB internal storage and a 5-inch 854 × 480 capacitive touchscreen. The 5000mAh rechargeable battery provides around six hours of continuous use.

Updates and the two additional software groups are downloaded directly through 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. No annual update subscription is required.
